A Melrose Learning Trust School

Welcome to High Coniscliffe CE Primary School

We may be a small school but we are a great big family taking an active role in our local community and the wider world.

Our school is a place where all are welcomed and invited to build a community where God’s love is shared to enable positive engagement, action and education; allowing children, staff and pupils to be inspired to raise their eyes, open their minds and explore the world God created. Participating in God’s mission of love to both the local community and the wider world, we live fully as global neighbours.

Our school is part of The Melrose Learning Trust.

We are located on the outskirts of Darlington in the village of High Coniscliffe. We have four mixed aged classes and can accommodate up to 105 children in school. As a faith school, we have a wide catchment and we take children from all around the surrounding area. We feed into all the local secondary schools.

If you would like to visit us or would like more information about the school, please get in touch with the school office.

The children have all enjoyed an egg-cellent end to the Spring Term today as they enjoyed a range of Easter themed activites including decorating their eggs with friends.

We also held our Easter service in school this morning and the children reflected and thought all about Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

From all of us at High Coniscliffe CE Primary school, we wish you a Happy Easter.

Have a wonderful break and we will look forward to seeing all of our families for the start of the Summer Term on Monday 15th April.

Yesterday, the Adventurers enjoyed an enrichment to their Roman topic this term by visiting Binchester Roman Fort in Bishop Auckland. The day was very well planned by the Museum for them to take part in many engaging activities. After getting a feel for how far back in time the Roman period was, the children explored the commander’s house and bath house. The bath house wasn’t discovered until back in the late 1800s when part of the original Roman concrete floor of the bath house collapsed when a horse and cart travelled across it. Having been covered in soil and grass for thousands of years, the weight of the cart caused a partial collapse to the ground underneath. Hence the discovery being made.

A few years ago, the largest Roman Mausoleum (Roman graveyard) ever found was discovered here by Time Team, the British TV series dedicated to uncovering Britain’s archaeology and history. The children were very interested in hearing of what was found beneath their feet and asked so many questions!

They will be able to explain why the Dere Street stone buildings discovered, lie beneath the windproof structure and why it stands today with more stones intact than the commander’s bath house.

The children did some indoor activities too which included dressing up, Roman numerals, mosaic making, artefact handling and making a small clay pot.

This little overview of our day could encourage you to chat with your child about our recent topic. We all had a very enjoyable day and these days couldn’t take place without the wonderful support we have from our volunteers.

A big thank you to Mr Park, Mrs Glew and Mrs Park for accompanying Miss Nicolas and I (Mrs Hall). Our gratitude is also extended to Mark, Helen and Kaye, the very knowledgeable and enthusiastic museum guides at Binchester Roman Fort.

Last week we had a very busy week of sports in school.

Monday: Judo Dan came to do some sessions with all children from Reception to Year 6. 🥋

Thursday: Year 5 represented our school in a Year 6 football competition (as our Y6 children were away on their residential). An excellent attitude and great sportsmanship was shown by all. It was a very cold event but luckily, Miss Nicholas took sleeping bags so everyone could wrap up and keep warm. ⚽️

Friday: Ten children from our Voyagers class went and tried their hand at tri golf. A very windy day, but all pupils showed great hand and eye coordination. ⛳️

Another fun filled day for our Y6 children. We’ve had the 3G swing, High Ropes, bushcraft, Jacobs Ladder and team games ending with all the children together for the Scrapheap Challenge; making an outfit from recycled materials and showing it off on the catwalk...

We are so extremely proud of how well the children are overcoming fears, working collaboratively, encouraging each other and representing our school amazingly with their positive attitudes and self belief!

We’ve lots more photos to share and lots of video footage too which we will upload as soon as we can (the signal here isn’t the strongest).

The sky’s the limit…

How brave are our Pioneers as they reach new heights in today’s high rope activities!

They have impressed all with their resilience and determination.

Mr Toner and Miss Forster have also been impressed with their great teamwork too.

Here are some photos of the children in action.
